(Washington, DC) The District’s reported data for Tuesday, May 11, 2021 includes 54 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 48,336. 

The District reported that 2 additional residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.  

  • 56-year-old female
  • 99-year-old female

Tragically, 1,115 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19. 

Due to the IT issue that was reported yesterday, the non-Public Health Lab negative test numbers have been adjusted in today’s data and the total number of tests has been reduced.

The District currently has 67 intensive care unit (ICU) beds available in hospitals out of 345 total ICU beds.

  • 278 total ICU inpatients
  • 37 COVID-19 positive ICU patients

Guidance has been published for healthcare providers, employers and the public to provide information on what to do if you have been diagnosed with or are a contact of someone who has COVID-19.

Residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
