Mayor Announces $51 Gift Cards for District Residents Getting Their First Dose at Select Sites, Chance to Win American Airlines Tickets

(Washington, DC) – Today, just days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that Washington, DC has reached 70% of adults having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Bowser is calling on community members to sign up for the third DC COVID-19 Community Corps Day of Action, which will be on Juneteenth (Saturday, June 19) so that DC can continue to make progress in getting all eligible residents vaccinated. The goal of each Day of Action is to engage with neighbors who have not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 and help them make a plan to get vaccinated. Canvassing shifts will begin at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and those who want to participate can learn more or register for the Day of Action at bit.ly/dayofactiondc.

The Mayor also announced that beginning Saturday, June 19, DC residents who are 12 and older and get their first COVID-19 vaccine dose at select sites will receive a $51 VISA gift card. Gift cards will be offered through Saturday, July 17. The gift card giveaway will begin on the Day of Action at three sites: the RISE Demonstration Center, Anacostia High School, and Ron Brown High School.

While anyone can get vaccinated at District vaccination sites, the gift cards are only available to District residents. Residents between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by a guardian. Residents will receive the gift card after getting their shot.

Additionally, District residents who get vaccinated at Anacostia High School on Saturday, June 19 will be entered to win two roundtrip American Airlines tickets to anywhere the airline flies. The tickets can be used for domestic or international flights.

“We are incredibly proud to pitch in on this effort by Mayor Bowser to boost vaccination rates in the District of Columbia,” said Robert Isom, President of American Airlines. “We know vaccines are helping us beat COVID-19 and resume the activities we’ve all been longing for, like reconnecting with friends and family and traveling for leisure and business. We commend Mayor Bowser’s dedication to ensuring every community in DC. has equitable access to vaccines, and we’re honored by the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing work at the local and federal level to defeat the pandemic.”
